Our Story

I was born and raised in Nanbu Town. I studied physics at a university outside the prefecture, but in 2016, I decided to return to Nanbu Town to work. In 2020, I established the Satoyama Biodiversity Project and began sharing the charm of Nanbu Town's satoyama with others.

What is it about Nanbu Town that captivated me so much? This question has been a significant theme in my life. On this site, I aim to document the attractions of Nanbu Town that I have been discovering since 2019, and to create experiential programs.

What I've Learned

There are people who have taught me about life and living in Nanbu Town. When I asked, "What is life in the satoyama like?" one person answered:

"Our life isn't anything special. In spring, we go out to the fields and till the soil; in summer, we cut the overgrown grass and plants. We simply repeat the ordinary things."

In Nanbu Town's satoyama, Rain that falls on the mountains flows down as rivers into the sea. The sea’s water then rises into the sky, forms clouds, and is carried by the north wind back to the mountains. Just like this water cycle, life in the satoyama follows nature’s rhythm, with people carefully repeating simple, everyday tasks.

This way of life embodies a gentle and profound spirituality akin to the Buddhist concept of "impermanence" (諸行無常).

Here in Nanbu Town, you can feel the rich and tranquil time where the cycles of nature and human life are connected.

For future

We believe that we will continue to live here, even as our forms change.

We may encounter various challenges, such as natural disasters and infections. However, life here will continue to repeat, unchanged. Like the water cycle and the changing of the seasons. Because that is life in the satoyama.
